Scotland - Day 3

Today was the day we had to leave the Cairngorms and head over to Oban where we were to stay to catch the early ferry the next day across to Mull. We made the most of the time we had left in Cairngorm to add a few trips ticks.

First stop was just outside Boat of Garten where we added Redshank, Tufted Duck and Teal. We then punched on to Avielochan. A stunning place where we had great views of breeding plumage Slavonian Grebes and a fly over Osprey.

By now a chilly wind and horrendous squally showers had well and truely set in but we still headed for Lochindorb and saw breeding plumage Black-throated Diver and Red-throated Diver as well as a Red Squirrel which actually stopped long enough for a photo!

Between Lochindorb and Oban we saw several Red Grouse and also added Snipe, Common Sandpiper and Red-legged Partridge to the trip list. On arrival in Oban we headed straight for the harbour and almost straight away got onto several Black Guillemots. What a stunning bird, sadly a bit far away for any decent pictures. We then headed for the B&B and dumped the stuff off and me and Mick decided to head back to the harbour and have a look for a Hooded Crow. We found a little cracker and managed to get some nice photos of it even though the light was failing fast.
