Squacco Heron - Southease

Squacco Heron - Southease
The spring...well now probably autumn continues to turn up some incredible birds and this stunning adult Squacco Heron found by Chris Barfield was unbelievably my 5th Sussex lifer of 2015. On arrival it was showing nicely along one of the drainage ditches if a little distant but cracking scope views. Gradually non-birders flushed it and it had a good look round eventually landing back on the top of the riverbank.
It was good to see most of the Sussex lads again and I was particularly pleased that Richard Fairbank managed to finally catch up with a Squacco in Sussex after missing out on the last couple. Sadly one person who was missing was little Micky D who has now moved to Norfolk so this was one his missed out on. It was a fantastic looking bird and they still amaze me when they fly and the white wings appear...really nice to see such a stunning bird in fabulous weather.
