A fantastic morning ringing down at the reedbed with 175 new birds ringed. Although that sounds like a lot of birds for one morning there didn't seem to be that many birds in the trapping area. If you had a walk around you would never have believed that we processed over 200 birds. The full list and totals is below:

Thursday 21st August
A much more relaxed morning today with ideal ringing conditions we were all surprised we didn't manage to catch more birds. The cloud cover soon vanished after first light which didn't help with the totals. We still managed to catch 60 new birds with the Tree Pipit and Kingfisher being obvious highlights. Saturday 23rd August
On arrival at the reedbed expectation was high as catching conditions were perfect. A decent amount of cloud cover and very little if any breeze. After the first couple of rounds it was obvious there were not many birds in the trapping area and we finished the morning with 56 new birds. Undoubtedly the highlight was the juvenile Cuckoo which was absolutely fantastic.

Sunday 24th August
My final visit to the reedbed in August produced another decent haul of migrants with 88 new birds ringed this morning. A really nice selection of birds were trapped this morning with a total of 21 species caught or re-trapped. It was nice to see a few Meadow Pipits heading over and we managed to catch out first of the autumn. We also snaffled the first Redstart of the year too with a nice juvenile male.
