Scillies 2013 - Day 8 - Sat 12th October

Redstart - St Martin's
After another quiet log and seemingly nothing new on any of the island's I decided I would go to St Martin's on the early boat and do a common bird count and hopefully find something interesting there too. The best find (not by me) was a female-type Red-breasted Merganser which was a Scillies tick for me. The totals for the count are below:

Blackbird - 33
Song Thrush - 22
Rock Pipit - 1
Dunnock - 20
Starling - 17
Redwing - 18
Blackcap - 4
Greenfinch - 26
Robin - 14
Wren - 11
Goldcrest - 8
Meadow Pipit - 30
Wheatear - 4
Woodpigeon - 10
Linnet - 22
Stonechat - 9
Collared Dove - 35+
House Sparrow - 80+
Chiffchaff - 5
Pheasant - 1
Whitethroat - 1
Carrion Crow - 1
GBB Gull - 4
Oystercatcher - 11
Goldfinch - 12
Kestrel - 1
Raven - 1
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER - 1 (Scillies Tick)
Grey Plover - 1
Turtle Dove - 1
Spotted Flycatcher - 1
Redstart - 1
Ring Ouzel - 1

Clouded Yellow - St Martin's
Speckled Wood - 43
Small Copper - 14
Red Admiral - 16
Small White - 2
Comma - 1
Clouded Yellow - 5

Once I got off the boat at St Mary's it came out on the radio that the Grey-cheeked Thrush had re-appeared in the Old Town Churchyard. Jay and Paz weren't bothered about it but I legged up there but missed it by 15mins. I did get cracking views of the Red-breasted Flycatcher again which was a bonus but ended up walking home in the dark...knackered...birded dawn til dusk for nowt!
